A is for…
Attendance - many of our second grade learning activities are group oriented and involve interactions with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to recreate these activities at home. Please view school as a priority and see it that your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency.
Assignment Notebook - please look over your child’s assignment notebook every night and sign it. It will tell you what homework needs to be complete each evening and any daily announcements.
B is for…
Book orders - once a month a Scholastic book catalog will be sent home. Please consider ordering online. It is more convenient and our class earns a free book with each order. The website is: www.scholastic.com

Background checks - if you will be chaperoning field trips or volunteering in our classroom you need to have a background check on file in the office. Please see me if you need a form. If you completed one last year, it should still be on file in the office.,
Birthdays - you are welcome to send in a treat for your child’s birthday. If your child is a summer baby, then you have the option of celebrating their half birthday or bringing in a treat the last week of school. Remember we are a peanut free classroom. You are also invited to email me a birthday wish/note for your child and I will include it with our class birthday letters that will be sent home.

Dismissal - school ends at 3:16. Please send a note if your child is going home a different way than his/her normal routine.

Emergencies - please make sure we have the correct emergency information on file for your child. If you need to contact me immediately during the day, please call the school office at 920.832.6255.

Field trips - our class will be going on several field trips throughout the year. Permission slips will be sent home for each trip and we are always looking for chaperons. Please consider paying for all the field trips at once.
Facts - addition/subtraction facts are to be mastered during second grade. Please practice these nightly.

Grades - report cards will be sent home each semester. Grades will be based on observations, rubrics, participation, quizzes, and tests.
H is for…
Homework - your child will have homework Monday-Friday. Homework should take between 20-30 minutes each night and must come back to school the next day. Homework usually consists of reading and math. If there are extenuating circumstances that cause homework to not be completed, please send me a note in your child’s assignment notebook.

Information - the blue communication envelope will come home most weeks on the last day of the week. Please check it over the weekend for important class and school information. The envelope needs to be signed and returned on Monday.
J is for…
Job well done - each Friday I will draw three tickets from our Positive Behavior Ticket Basket. Each student will get to choose a free book to add to their home library. (Students are given 2 tickets each day. Tickets will be given to Mrs. Mullen when class or school rules are not followed. Any tickets that the students have at the end of the day will be collected in the Positive Behavior Ticket Basket for our weekly drawing.)

Kindness - Everyday is a day to learn about being kind to others. Your child will be encouraged and expected to treat everyone with kindness and respect.

Lunch - our lunch and recess time is from 11:15 - 12:05. Please make sure your child is eating healthy meals. You may also choose to order lunch. A lunch menu will be sent home each month.

Money - please send all money in an envelope with your child’s name and the reason for the money.

Reading - students are expected to read orally at home for a minimum of 15-20 minutes every night and fill out a reading log 5/7 days. Encourage your child to share their thinking as they are reading.

Snacks - you can send a healthy snack for your child every day. We do not have extra snacks in the classroom for students who forget to bring one.
T is for…
Tardies - students should be at school by 8:22. Arriving after this time causes students to lose instructional time. If tardiness becomes a regular occurrence, then missed work will need to be completed during recess or as homework.

Uppercase and Lowercase - please make sure that your child uses correct capitalization and letter formation when completing their homework.

Volunteers - there will be many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. I will have a sign-up sheet available at our Open House. All volunteers must complete a confidentiality form. Please follow the link to the Huntley Forms and click on confidentiality form. Additional forms are available in the office.

Water - please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day. I prefer the pop-up tops to prevent spills and distractions.
